1954 - 2020

Michele specialized in the pre- and post-operative care of adults requiring endocrine-related surgery, especially thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and was a Preceptor and Mentor in the Diabetes Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt, Tennessee.

She was an active member of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN) Middle Tennessee Group, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Vanderbilt Medical Group Clinical Committee, Vanderbilt Professional Nursing Practice Program Central Committee, Vanderbilt Medical Patient Care Center Nursing Grand Rounds Planning Committee, and the local Red Hat brigade.                

Michele joined ENS 2014 and immediately volunteered and as the Chair of the Endocrine Nurse Society Program Planning Committee 2014 and remained until her demise in 2020.                                           

She is remembered for her compassion and dry sense of humor, ability to see the funny side of everything, was always calm and controlled during episodes of confusion during around our annual conferences. Michele was passionate and exacting about the production of the ENS annual program, adhering to the vision of the Endocrine Nurses Society: ‘to promote excellence in the clinical care of patients through advancement of the science and art of endocrine nursing”, and for catering to the enjoyment of the audience.

The ENS travel grant, is renamed the Michele Mims Travel Award in her honor.
